By and large, the recruitment in Management Cadre is done through campus visits and open advertisement at two levels:

1. Officer Trainee
   
2. Officer

HPCL visits Engineering & Management Institutes for campus recruitment of

• Engineers - From IITs, NITs, etc.
  
• MBAs - Premier Management Institutions
  
• Chartered Accountants - Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)
  

Engineers / MBA - HR/ Marketing are recruited as Officer Trainees (OT). They initially undergo training for six months and are absorbed on successful completion of the same. After absorption, the officer is on probation for next 6 months. On successful completion of probationary period, the officer is confirmed as the employee of the Corporation.

Most of the recruitment is made at entry level only. However, HPCL may recruit Officers at senior levels, through open advertisements, to meet some specific requirements, like Exploration & Production, R&D etc. for which expertise may not be available internally. IT Officers and Accounts Officers are also directly recruited through open advertisement in S/G 'A'.
