12. Why should not we use engine oil for diesel or petrol vehicles in my two-wheeler?
Your 2 - wheeler is having a 2 - stroke engine inside it, which works differently from a 4 - stroke engine present in a car or truck. Truck and car engine oils contain ZDDP, which results in higher deposits and spark plug fouling. High ash content lead to pre - ignition due to combustion deposits Single grade oils are viscous, which result in deposits & smoke. Truck and car engine oils do not contain a solvent, which is required for a 2 - stroke engine because it has to mix with petrol.
13. We have heard about some enforcement by Govt. of India for 2 - stroke oils. What is it?
In order to combat the serious pollution caused by a very large number of two wheelers in the country, the Ministry of Environment and Forests vide a Gazette Notification has stipulated the minimum level of 2 stroke engine oil as JASO FC and API TC, which is a Low Smoke Oil.

The oil level indication may be inaccurate if the vehicle is on a slope. The oil level should be checked either before starting the engine, or at least two or three minutes after stopping the engine. Pull out the oil dipstick, wipe off oil with a clean cloth, insert the dipstick all the way into the engine, and then remove it again. The oil on the stick should be between the upper and lower limits shown on the stick. If the oil level indication is near the lower limit add enough oil to rise to the upper limit.

HP KOOLGARD, a concentrate is recommended at 30% - 50% concentrations with water. HP THANDA RAJA is a ready to use coolant, which can be used as it is.
14. What is the correct way of changing the coolant in a car?
When the engine is warm (NOT HOT) open the radiator drain plug or remove bottom hose.
- Ensure your car is parked on level ground with the hand brake applied.
- Set heater control to 'hot'
- Replace drain plug / radiator hose.
- Remove radiator cap. Use a water pressure hose to flush out old coolant.
- Put recommended quantity of HP Koolgard into radiator. Top up with water and replace cap.
- Run engine for 5 minutes. Check water level and top up if necessary.
Complete flushing and renewal of your engine coolant should occur at least every two years. Once every year engine coolant changes are desirable, if concentration is not well maintained. Most car engines have a coolant system which requires a glycol based coolant mixed with water. The glycol base acts as an anti - freeze and maintains the physical characteristics of coolant, which continuously protects your engine parts from corrosion and damage. The concentration of HP Koolgard in water should be minimum 30%, or as per vehicle manufacturer's recommendation, so as to attain complete protection.
Please check: Keep a close watch on radiator hose and fittings. A damaged radiator hose or a loose fitting may result in leakage and overheating. Check the pressure of the radiator cap. Keep observing the change in colour of water being drained from the radiator; it can give you an indication of your engine's health.
15. Why a car needs a coolant?
When you run your car, a lot of heat is generated. Only a part of it gets converted into power and the rest is rejected in the surroundings thereby heating all parts of the engine.
Apart from cooling the engine, a coolant performs the following functions:
- Capable of providing Anti freezing properties and boiling protection
- Protection of metals against corrosion.
