Renewable Energy:

Being a leading energy company in India, HPCL has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable development thru harnessing renewable energy resources. To reduce carbon footprints and to promote renewable energy, HPCL has ventured into Wind Power generation in 2007 by the installation of a 3.75 MW Capacity Wind Farm in Dhule, Maharashtra. Since then we have increased the capacity of Wind Power to 100.90 MW and Solar Power to about 43.95 MW.

The details of the wind farm installed is given below:

Site Capacity Installed (MW) Commissioning Year Capex Incurred (Rs Crs)
Dhule, Maharashtra 3.75 2007 17.94
Pithala Satta Gorera (PSG) Jaisalmer, Rajasthan 21.25 2008-09 114.43
AKAL, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan 25.50 2010 157.78
Tejuva, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan 50.4 2016 366.29
Total 100.90 - 656.44

The energy generated from the wind farm is sold to the state DISCOM of Rajasthan and Maharashtra as per the Power purchase agreement signed by respective DISCOMS. Since inception, we have garnered a total revenue of about Rs 489 Crores from the sale of electricity from these wind farm to DISCOM and thru trading of 489 lacs Renewable energy certificates in the trading platforms till 31.05.2020. 1.83 Lacs Tonnes of CO2 is offset in the last Financial Year due to Wind Energy generation.

In addition to this, we have saved in taxes as per the various incentive available by govt for green energy projects.

Similarly, we have increased the solar power capacity from 70 KW in 2014 to now 43.95 MW till last fiscal. All the solar plants are installed is of captive nature and the energy generated from these solar power plants are used to partially meet the electricity requirement of our marketing locations and retail outlets.

As far as future plan for RE is concerned, HPCL is committed to leveraging the green energy available in abundance for sustainable growth as well as a good business opportunity. We have committed in our vision 2030 document to install about 2000 MW of Renewable energy portfolio by 2030.

For the Fiscal year 2022, we are doing feasibility and exploring means for participation in the tariff bidding process for allotment of wind and solar plants. In addition, HPCL will be doing the installation of EV charging stations at our retail outlets, installation of more off-grid solar power plants at retail outlets etc.
