By and large, the recruitment in Management Cadre is done through campus visits and open advertisement through All India Competition at two levels:

  • Officer Trainee
  • Officer

Engineering graduates – Post graduates / Management graduates / Chartered accountants are recruited through Open Advertisement (All India Competition) and Campus Recruitment as Officer Trainee / Officers based on the Corporation’s requirement.

New recruits joining as Officer Trainee undergo training for 6 months and are absorbed in Salary grade "A" as an ‘Officer’ on successful completion of training period. Upon absorption, officers are on probation for next 6 months and are confirmed in Salary Grade "A" as the regular employee of the Corporation upon successful completion of probation period. New recruits joining as Officer in Salary Grade “A” are on probation for next 12 months. On successful completion of probation period, the officer is confirmed in Salary Grade "A" as the regular employee of the Corporation.

Most of the recruitment is made at entry level only. However, HPCL may recruit Officers at senior levels, through open advertisements, to meet some specific requirements, like Exploration & Production, R&D etc. for which expertise may not be available internally. IT Officers and Legal Officers with requisite work experience are also recruited in Salary Grade 'A'.
