LPG is marketed in bulk as well as in packed form. The choice depends on various factors such as the quantity of LPG required, rate of consumption, space available at customer premises, cost of installation etc.
LPG in bulk form is stored in above ground bullets or Mounded storage at customers premises. Equipment required at customer premises include Tank Truck decanting facility, LPG pumps, compressors and vaporisers to convert liquid LPG to vapour. Bulk LPG installations can support Industries with huge and continuous consumption demand for LPG. It is recommended that industries with a consumption of more than 50 MT/month should have bulk LPG facility for smooth supply and operation. HPCL supplies Non Domestic LPG in bulk quantities for industrial / commercial use through 7 MT, 12 MT, 18 MT and 21 MT trucks from its loading bases spread across the country and supplies the product on door delivery basis (on delivered as well as delivery assistance).
HPCL supplies Propane to Industrial customers with specialized fuel requirements through 18 MT and 21 MT tank trucks from its loading bases across the country. Due to its lower boiling point and higher vapour pressure with respect to LPG, Propane evaporates easily in colder conditions and its high purity gives rise to higher system efficiency. HPCL also markets ND Butane in Bulk, which is used in petrochemicals and in aerosol units.
Packed LPG in cylinders are available in different sizes with two different types of valves as per requirement. It may be noted that all types of LPG cylinders available now are to be used and stored only in upright position and not in horizontal position.
This type of cylinders are fitted with SC type valves and designed to withdraw vapour from the cylinders. The amount of LPG vapour extracted from the cylinder 0.5kg per hour and hence these cylinders are useful where the LPG consumptions rate is low, like cooking etc.
VOT cylinders for non-domestic use are available in 5kg, 19kg, and 35kg and 47.5kg sizes. Depending upon total consumption as well as rate of consumption, multiple cylinders are connected in a bank.
Multi cylinder installations shall meet the requirements of IS 6044 Part - I & Part - II and OISD-162. Total quantity of LPG in all cylinders in a manifold shall not exceed 1000kg.
In a Manifold System, cylinders are connected to the Manifold in parallel, where LPG is simultaneously withdrawn from all the cylinders and is discharged to the system for usage.
This type of cylinder is fitted with LOT valves. The valve will have a HDPE tube fitted valve, which is running and running up to the bottom of the cylinder. Hence liquid LPG directly flows out the cylinder due to the pressure differential.
Since LOT valves draw liquid LPG, we need vaporisers to convert the liquid to vapour.
LOT valves are normally fitted in 47.5 kg cylinder configuration, though any commercial cylinder can be fitted with a LOT valve.
Liquid Off-Take (LOT) LPG System offers advantage of bulk LPG Installation and easy functionality as that of Cylinder manifold. LOT system withdraws Liquid LPG using the LOT valves. The LOT system can cater to any flow rate requirement of LPG and occupies lesser space. They are easy to handle & are provided with High Safety Standards (LOT valves are fitted with SRV/EFCV within the Cylinders).
The LOT systems are also cost effective as there is no residual loss. Hence they are becoming more popular choice among LPG users compared to VOT systems and even bulk LPG installations.
The LOT installation shall be as per Installation guide. Total amount of LPG in all cylinders in a manifold shall not exceed 1000kg.

The first purchase requires the customer to buy the cylinder and the gas-regulator (if required) and only gas cost has to be paid at the time of subsequent refill.
